![]() Not only had the card texts become much longer than they used to be. When we started sleeving up, I already noticed that it wasn't going to be easy to explain the game. I had him pick one of the decks - he decided to go with Space-Time Showdown - and I took the other one. He agreed and I bought us two new starter decks (Link Strike and Space-Time Showdown), two packs of sleeves, and two deck boxes to get started. I explained the situation, but offered to buy us some new cards, if he wanted to learn how to play the game. However, I also did not want to just take the cards away from him since he clearly enjoyed playing with them. After realizing that my old collection was now quite valuable, I obviously did not want it to get damaged by my nephew playing with it. I quickly found out that some of those First Edition Secret Rares that used to be not worth much back in the day had tremendously increased in price over the years. Since I did not know whether or not those cards were still worth anything, I checked the prices for some of my old cards online. Afterward I did not have any contact with Yu-Gi-Oh! whatsoever - until that day last year when my nephew found my old cards. This was probably one of the last news I read about. I also learned that a new card type, namely Synchro Monsters, was added to the game. For example, I read about Dark Armed Dragon being released, which was a beast of a card back then. Even though I quit competitive play at the time, I still followed the evolution of Yu-Gi-Oh! online for a while. ![]() ![]() I quit the game in 2007 for various reasons, one of them the decision by our local store to not host tournaments anymore.
